ESPY Awards

With the ESPY awards drawing near we're all excited about the potential
of seeing our favorite athletes win an award. I can't wait until
tomorrow so I decided to do my own. I'm not going to cover every
category, just some of the most popular ones. The people I am picking
are overlooked athletes that aren't favorites to win but should win.

Best Male Athlete- Lionel Messi

g>

Messi probably won't win this award and he's probably not even a nominee
but he should. According to several sports writers Lebron James, Novak
Djokovic, Justin Verlander, and Aaron Rodgers are the favorites for this
award. Yes those guys have had great years, but Lio Messi scored 72
goals this past season. Most elite strikers in the world dream about
scoring 30 or 40 goals. Let me put it in perspective, that's like
Rodgers throwing 60 TD's or Lebron averaging 40 points per game.

Best Female Athlete- Vivian Cheruiyot

99% of people that read this have probably never heard of Vivian
Cheruiyot and don't care who she is. Well, let me give you a brief
summary of who she is and her achievements. Vivian is a Kenyan distance
runner that won the 5k and 10k races at the IAAF World Championships
last September to go along with her World Cross Country victory later
that fall. Another impressive stat about her is that she has not lost a
single race in any event since January 2011. Because running is not
interesting to most people, Vivian's dominance will be overlooked and
Serena Williams will probably win this award for her performance at
Wimbledon.

Best Breakthrough Athlete- Victor Cruz

I hate the New York Giants but even I can't deny that their receiver
Victor Cruz had a monster year. The young man from UMass Amherst burst
onto the scene last season and became one of the NFL's elite receivers.

Best Male College Athlete- Justin Blackmon

I know you were all expecting Robert Griffin III or Anthony Davis. Well
one of those guys probably will win the award but let's not forget about
Oklahoma State's superstar receiver Justin Blackmon. Opposing teams
designed their defenses to stop Blackmon from beating them but he still
managed to catch 18 td's last year to go with his mind blowing 121
catches. He went on to lead Ok State in their fiesta bowl victory
against Stanford with 8 catches and 3 td's.

Best Female College Athlete- Kimberlyn Duncan

Like Vivian Cheruiyot, Kimberlyn Duncan is not known to many people.
Also like Vivian, Kimberlyn is a runner who dominated her competition
this past year. Once again like Vivian, Duncan never lost a race this
past year winning SEC and NCAA titles in multiple track & field events
including the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 4x1 relay. Unfortunately for Duncan
her sport is not very popular therefore Baylor's basketball phenom
Britney Griner will most likely win this award.

Best Team- Baylor Women's Basketball

Let's be honest Kentucky Men's basketball is probably going to win this
and I want them to win this but.....the Baylor Lady Bears achieved one
thing the Wildcats of Kentucky didn't, an undefeated season. Kentucky's
one loss to Indiana is pretty insignificant but it's still a loss.
Baylor on the other hand never tasted defeat this past season, and
absolutely ran through pretty every opponent.

Just some Pics

I flew from Stockholm Sunday morning to Gothenburg, Sweden for a track meet. I've had good training for the last two and half weeks, and I've been a pacemaker for some meets lately so my shape wasn't bad at all. I felt good and relaxed in a way of something good will happen today. Had that good feeling you sometimes get... Finally I ran well, ran a time that I've haven't run in two years. Thank you God! A lot more work to do for the next meet, the 19th of July!

Now I'm at the airport waiting for my flight back to Stockholm to the training camp........THIIIIS AIRPORT IS BOOOOOOORING!!!!!!! Looks pretty high class though....I can't take pictures....

Serena Williams wins 5th Wimbledon title!

#5....basically 5rings...WHAT WHAT!
Serena Williams made it to the Wimbledon final verses Agnieszka Radwanska earlier this morning (Saturday July 7th). According to the New York Times, Serena said on Friday "I don't play unless I feel like I can win. That's why I play tennis. I'm not playing to come in last place."

She definitely did what those sentences imply. GO SERENA!!!!!

So far her sister Venus and Serena together: 21 singles, 12 doubles, 2 mixed Grand Slam titles and 3 Gold Medals. Can't nobody compete against those two siblings!

Great genes or what!

OMG I can't believe it...ooooohh....

ESPN, more than just a sports channel

ESPN claims to be the world leader in sports and rightfully so. The one thing I don’t understand about ESPN though is what exactly do they classify as “sports” these days. Sure you see all the major sports such as basketball, football, baseball, soccer, and hockey on ESPN. You even see other sports like tennis, golf, track & field, and motorsports. Now the definition of sport (an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others) is pretty vague and can be left open for interpretation. In our society we look at a sport as an activity that requires athleticism. Athleticism also has a vague definition but we think of an athletic person as someone who has some sort of speed, strength, jumping ability, agility, and coordination. Athletes don’t need to have all of those attributes but usually to be considered athletic you need to have a couple of those especially speed, agility and coordination. I could go on forever about what we could and could not consider a sport.

Anyways, back to ESPN. These days the type of programs we see on ESPN really makes us wonder “why the hell is this on ESPN?” For example, let’s look at the World Series of Poker. Somebody explain to me how this can possibly be considered a sport. Sure it requires mental skill but there is no real physical activity involved in it whatsoever. If a card game can be considered a sport then let’s just go ahead and call monopoly, checkers, chess, and uno sports too. Things can really get out of hand at that point and where do we possibly stop at that point? Another example, the spelling bee. This is worse than poker. Please don’t tell me we’re going to start calling people athletes because of their ability to spell. I can spell really well too but I also have real athleticism. The one that really blows my mind is the hot dog eating contest. They even have the MLE (Major League Eating) now. I absolutely refuse to consider this a sport. I don’t care how much you can eat, I’m not going to call you an athlete because you can stuff your face full of food and look absolutely disgusting in the process. Some people like to argue over whether to call cheerleading a sport or not but I’ll you what…it’s a million times more of a sport than what ESPN broadcasts. Sad how poker gets more airtime than cheerleading competitions.

The question now is where do we draw the line? Where do we stop calling very unathletic people athletes? I mean do we want to encourage the younger generations to practice eating as many hot dogs as they can in 10 minutes so they can go to coney island in July and stuff their faces on national TV? This is a huge problem with American society because while we’re “trying” to fight childhood obesity and laziness we’re still encourage these so called “sports” that don’t require kids to go outside and be active. Being the worldwide leader in sports ESPN has the ability to influence many and help this country make progress in achieving some of its social goals. They can start by getting some of this nonsense off their channel. Thanks for reading.

The Dance Music Era

Over the past couple years no music genre has come with such a force like dance music has. By dance music I mean modern pop, house, progressive house, trance etc....If you turn on the radio to any station that plays top 40 chances are that over half the songs you hear will have a dance beat to it. The majority of clubs are bumping dance tracks that make the whole building jump. It really makes you sit back and wonder "how did this happen?" Let's take a minute and look back over the course of the past decade to understand exactly how it all went down.

There are some people out there that will tell you that they have always been a fan of dance music, but not all of them are talking about the dance music we hear today. House, trance and other forms of techno music have always been big in Europe, as a matter of fact the best house and trance DJ's in the world hail from countries like The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, and Sweden. In the U.S. hip-hop became arguably the most popular genre in the late 90's and early 2000's. So how did the Europeans bring their flagship music genre to America? Well the same way every other type of influence got here...IMMIGRATION!!!! Don't get me wrong, dance music already existed in America but it wasn't as strong as other genres. As commercial hip-hop took a turn for the worst, people started to look to other genres. It is a known fact in this country that social trends are constantly changing. People get bored of what is in and everyone is always looking forward to what's next with each growing generation. As more and more people immigrate to the U.S. they bring their trends with them. Diverse cities such as NYC, LA, Miami, Philly and Boston see new trends come and go constantly. Foreign DJ's created their fan base in these cities, and we all know once you blow up in places like NYC, LA, and Miami the rest of the nation will take notice.

The song Sandstorm by Darude was one of the first house tracks to rock the U.S. People became intrigued and wondered what else does this genre have to offer. Pretty soon DJ's like Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, and Paul Oakenfold became household names. As we got closer to 2010 musical artists from other genres were taking a stab at dance music. Pitbull made a full on conversion from a rapper to laying down a couple plain verses and catchy hooks to some hot dance beats. Usher went from slow R&B jams to fast pace dance tracks. Flo Rida pretty much did the same thing Pitbull did. The change actually boosted their careers (well Usher didn't need the boost). Other artists took notice and gave dance music a try. By mid 2011 everybody was doing it. With more and more artists wanting dance beats there became a demand for producers and DJ's that could provide these beats. In came producers like RedOne (most known for beats like Just Dance by Lady Gaga and Starships by Nikki Minaj), Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris, Edward Maya, and DJ Magazine's 2012 DJ of the Year...David Guetta. Other house and trance DJ's such as Skrillex, Markus Schulz, Laidback Luke, Avicii and Swedish House Mafia have now taken the U.S. by storm and has us all fist pumping like the cast of Jersey Shore.

Some people might say they saw it coming, while others never saw it coming and are a bit annoyed that their favorite artists are making the switch. I personally didn't see it coming but I love it because this genre has been one of my favorites since it was introduced to me by a friend (Dario Galizia) back in 5th grade. Whether you're a fan or not you can't deny that it is probably the hottest genre right now and it is nearly impossible to resist the urge to dance or at least bob your head uncontrollably when a dance track comes on. Thanks for reading and GOD bless.

LONDON OLYMPICS GOLD MEDALIST!

Did she run fast to prove something after the crucial 100m tie at the US Olympic Trials?

Sixth Fastest 200m time ever run on a track by a woman, Allyson Felix with time of 21.69s. 21.69seconds. She ran 21.69seconds for 200m and won the US Olympic Trials by far. There are a lot of great runners out there but you gotta give to Allyson for that performance. Personally that's the craziest time I've seen so far since Usain Bolt world records. Maybe I'm taking it too far but still. You would expect a muscular girl run times like that, but negative.....She is not muscular, she is just TALENTED. God gave that gift to her!

For this blog, I just want ya'll to recognize how fast this lady is. You would think she run 400/800 maybe even 1500 but no, its 100/200/400.

Would she have run as fast if the issue on the 100m didn't occur?

I guess we'll never know.....

Is she going for Gold in London? Definitely she is, and she will win it.
